I spent 24 years in critical care nursing, where control was everything and outcomes had to be precise. After leaving bedside nursing, I gave myself permission to learn new ways of living. One of my greatest teachers was dance.
At first, I was self-conscious and frustrated. It was ingrained into me that it had to be right, had to be perfect. If you identify with this, you probably do everything yourself, too. A breakthrough came when I realized perfection is a ton of pressure and unrealistic. I was finally able to trust someone to lead and allowed myself to be guided. From this, I grew in all aspects of my life. I learned to accept help, seek guidance, and stop assigning fault (usually aimed inward).
Dancing taught me that life, like health, isn't about rigid rules. It's about best-practice guidelines, trust, and momentum. If you make a mistake, you don't freeze in shame — you keep moving.
